Lou A. Newman

Private Attorney

Lou A. Newman has been an attorney in private practice in North Carolina since 1980. She has concentrated her practice on juvenile law, representing juveniles in delinquency cases and the Wake County Guardian ad Litem Program in abuse and neglect proceedings, as well as involuntary commitment law and guardianship proceedings. She received a B.A. in political science and psychology from Duke University, where she was an Angier B. Duke scholar, and a J.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Ms. Newman was the lead author of the first edition of the North Carolina Civil Commitment Manual and wrote the chapter on abuse, neglect, and dependency proceedings in two editions of the North Carolina Bar Association’s General Practice Deskbook.
